The Denver Broncos have fallen far short of their potential in the past few years.Poor QB talent.Bad draft picks (sans 2018).Abysmal coaching of the lowest form.It has been a rough ride. It is not what our team is used to and is a far cry from meeting what we in Broncos Country know as the Broncos Standard. The Broncos StandardI’ve spent time talking to many other fan bases among the SB Nation blogs. Many are fan bases just like ours...a bunch of passionate White Chris Harris Jr Jersey , fanatic, fun, and very sharp football fans. Some of them though find out that I’m a Broncos fan and immediately bring up how they can’t stand Broncos fans. I always try to take the time to find out why and the most common answer I get is that our fan base is one of the most entitled in the NFL that doesn’t cheer for the New England Patriots or the Pittsburgh Steelers.I honestly agree with this sentiment and accept it fully as a fan of the Broncos.Call us whiny, entitled, or any other term you like with your nose turned down at us...I love every second of it.We have a standard on this team.Pat Bowlen instilled it in this franchise and for decades we have been absolutely spoiled as a fan base to enjoy the fruits of it.This team fights for championships. This team has few losing seasons and they expect to be in the playoff hunt regularly. It is this standard that is the difference between our beloved franchise and a 2nd rate franchise like the Kansas City Chiefs.Their team, fan base, and organization are all excited as all get out to be in the AFC Championship game. But behind it all is fear...especially for their fans. They don’t know how to win it all. They’ve never seen it and neither has their team since the modern inception of what we call NFL football. If Denver was in that game, we wouldn’t have fear. We would have proud anticipation of the game. It is a completely different story and it is because of how this team is supposed to be ran and how it is supposed to operate. The sad realityUnfortunately, we aren’t anywhere close to an AFC Championship game. Our organization wasn’t up to the task and fell far short of that pinnacle (congrats KC...getting there is definitely a worthy accomplishment). We have had two years of a joke of a head coach with several jokes of players at QB. The team has talent and even got a huge infusion of it in the last draft. But the engine just won’t turn over and get chugging. This has caused (and rightly so) the heat to be turned up on John Elway. He’s the President of Football Operations after all. The buck stops with him, right Joe Ellis? This battleship needs repairThe season is over and this team has been dry docked to undergo some heavy repairs. It is slow, old, and crumbling around the edges in some ways. The Broncos team needs to get stripped down to the bare skeleton, reinforced, and then put back together into something that looks more formidable in today’s NFL.Our offense has been a hot mess. Our coaching has been sub par. Even our vaunted defense is starting to wear around the edges (well more like the secondary, but that’s another story for another day).Elway won’t say it, but this is what he’s doingElway has brought in a head coach that is instantly going to bring credibility to the position. Did you guys watch his introductory press conference? My No Bull take is that it was the first time I’ve seen a real NFL Football adult talking as the head of the coaching for the Denver Broncos since Gary Kubiak was healthy.I love the selection of Vic Fangio. And it is more than just “he’s a guy that talks well as a coach.”He’s also a guy like Wade Phillips who will instantly get these players back on point on the defensive side of the ball and dialed in and ready to wreak havoc on NFL offenses moving forward.I also love the fact honestly that Gary Kubiak didn’t work out as an OC for the team. I’ve seen nothing to indicate that he’s got the goods to run any kind of modern NFL offense. Look what is happening in Minnesota...he’s bringing in the same old assistants he’s always used. Shoot me now.I remember what that hot mess looked like in the 2016 season. So now we’re actually interviewing a student of Kyle Shanahan as the #1 option to lead the Broncos offense in a completely new direction. It is innovative. It is surely risky as well, but it is the gutsy kind of move that I feel like Pat Bowlen would approve of. It reminds me of what happened when we brought in Mike Shannahan to lead the team on one more charge to try and get John Elway back in the Super Bowl for another shot. The future is cloudyI’m not sure any of this will work. Fangio may not be the guy. Rich Scangarello may be a hot mess at OC.We may spend a high draft pick on a guy who is a complete bust.Anything can happen. But what I love is that Elway is changing directions. We’re not banging our heads into a wall repeatedly hoping it “just works” one of these days. Elway is going in guns blazing and looking for a way to get this team back on the path to the promised land.Buckle up, Broncos Country. 2019 is going to be one helluva ride! Before anyone says a word, guess what? Your job as an NFL player is to bust your butt from late July until January if you’re lucky enough to be in the playoffs. Period! It isn’t to have fun. It isn’t to throw parties. It isn’t to take vacations on your bye week. It isn’t to call in sick when you’re having a bad day. It’s to be singularly focused on you multi-million dollar job! If you can’t handle that, find a new career! Period!Sure Youth Ronald Leary Jersey , a Halloween party is nice and fun. I get it. But that’s not your job! I also understand that they had the next day off. So what? Spend that time studying the damn Chiefs. That’s what you get paid to do!In other news, there are games to be played outside the fragile eco-system in Denver. Lets take a look at them, shall we?Last Week: 9-4Overall: 59-45-2Miami Dolphins (4-3) at Houston Texans (4-3) 6:20pm FOX/NFLN TNFHow will Brock do in his return to Houston? He says no hard feelings, but everyone knows that there are always hard feelings when you get dumped. But will that matter? Prediction: Dolphins 24, Texans 27Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) at Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4) 7:30am NFLN LondonI’m not sure how to really handicap this game. The Eagles are a shell of their former self, and the Jags can’t seem to be competitive anymore. Will the Eagles bumble this away or will the Jags continue getting embarrassed? Decisions, Decisions. Prediction: Eagles 31, Jags 17Denver Broncos (3-5) at Kansas City Chiefs (7-1) 11:00am CBSI had hoped this would be Chad Kelly vs Patrick Mahomes to usher in a new era in the AFC West. Apparently one mistake is all it takes to ruin that. Good thing Elway has never been drunk or did anything stupid when he was playing (like cops letting him off instead of busting him for DUI’s, which for the morality police means he put women and children’s lives in danger). Anyways, this team (Broncos) are a dumpster fire and the Chiefs are a Ram’s hiccup away from being #1. This is a pretty damn easy pick. Prediction: Broncos 9, Chiefs 51Baltimore Ravens (4-3) at Carolina Panthers (4-2) 11:00am CBSThis is gonna be a good game. Both teams are really good. But will this be an offensive game or defensive game? That’s the biggest question. Prediction: Ravens 17, Panthers 23New York Jets (3-4) at Chicago Bears (3-3) 11:00am CBSThis is a tale of two young QBs. The Bears gave the Patriots all they could handle, so I’m gonna assume they beat up on the Jets. Prediction: Jets 16, Bears 27Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3) at Cincinnati Bengals (4-3) 11:00am FOXThe Bengals are decently healthy, and they’re at home. After a fast start to the season, it looks like the Bucs have flat-lined again. Prediction: Bucs 13, Benglas 24Seattle Seahawks (3-3) at Detroit Lions (3-3) 11:00am FOXPretty sure home field advantage means nothing to the Lions. Their only impressive victory was against Patricia’s old team. They’ve looked anything but good outside of that. Prediction: Seahawks 30, Lions 23Washington Redskins (4-2) at New York Giants (1-6) 11:00am FOXThe Giants are in a full on race to the bottom. Anything less than a defeat is just not good enough! Prediction: Redskins 24, Giants 13Cleveland Browns (2-4-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2-1) 11:00am CBSThese two teams played to a tie already, but I don’t think that can possibly happen again. Even though I root for Baker Mayfield to do great , I don’t think it’ll be enough in the Steel City. Prediction: Browns 17, Steelers 27Indianapolis Colts (2-5) at Oakland Raiders (1-5) 2:05pm CBSThere are three teams in that aforementioned “race to the bottom” , and one of those three is the Raiders. “Just Lose Baby!” is their unofficial slogan. Prediction: Colts 27, Raiders 10San Francisco 49ers (1-6) at Arizona Cardinals (1-6) 2:25pm FOXWe wrap up our race to the bottom with this game. The 49ers will try to win, and the Cardinals will simply do what they do best: Lose. Prediction: 49ers 17, Cardinals 13Green Bay Packers (3-2-1) at Los Angeles Rams (7-0) 2:25pm FOXOne of the better games of the week is right here. Can the Rams stay undefeated or will the Packers pull off an upset? If this is in Green Bay, it’s a likely “pick-em”, but this is in Los Angeles.. wait, LA doesn’t really care about non-Lakers teams. I like Gurley and Goff to straight go off in this game. Prediction: Packers 31, Rams 34New Orleans Saints (5-1) at Minnesota Vikings (4-2-1) 6:20pm NBC SNFCo-better games of the week up in Minnesota. Both teams are playing great. This will come down to defense, which is a bad omen for the Saints. Prediction: Saints 24, Vikings 27New England Patriots (5-2) at Buffalo Bills (2-5) 6:15pm ESPN MNFThis game is laughable. Gronkowski or not, the Patriots win this game by 3 TD’s. Prediction: Patriots 45, Bills 6Bye Week: Falcons, Chargers, Cowboys, Titans
